Writing

I am actively engaged in finding new ways to interact with readers. I have built a fan base of hundreds on Facebook and thousands on Twitter with experiments in flash fiction, collaborative storytelling and fan pages. In 2001 I created a social network for artists. Enfuse emerged as an experimental platform for collaboration and drew an audience of tens-of-thousands. I then joined a start-up providing social media marketing tools for live event promoters. Our invite widget is now being used by major players in the entertainment industry as a viral promotions tool. I am now shaping the online social strategy for the second largest newspaper company in the country.

I wanted to create something that empowered other creators. That was the motivation that drove me to build and manage a social network for artists with a magazine front-end called Enfuse that operated as a portfolio tool for emerging and independent writers, musicians and visual artists. Enfuse emerged as an experimental platform for collaboration and drew an audience of tens-of-thousands of unique visitors per month. I finally shut it down this year. The reasons are explained here: Enfuse Sign-Off Letter.

My devotion for writing has driven me since I was an adolescent. I am usually working on several concurrent projects – often times to balance different outlets.

My completed works include a couple of novels and novellas, a screenplay and several collections of short stories. I am currently working on a historical non-fiction novel based on the life of my grandmother during the Second World War in The Soviet Union. The working tile is “Bella of God”. I’ve also set in motion an experimental sci-fi flash fiction work using several Twitter profiles and aggregated here.

Previous publishing credits include: Enfuse Magazine, Hybrid Magazine, Planet Magazine, Fantasy Today, Muse Apprentice Guild, and Bewildering Stories. I’m currently looking for representation for a science fiction novel about virtual particles and hackers called The Sparks of Aion.

Some of the projects I’m trying out include a Twitter Novel, a creative commons excerpt of a larger work with open source Flash animations and an animated myth – all under construction. See links below for more on these:

  • The Seed: A bio-terror attack threatens the food supply, but the response may be worse than the threat. A flash fiction experiment aggregated from Twitter.
  • The Sparks: Virtual particles wage war across the information infrastructure. A creative commons experiment in character open sourcing.
  • The Makara Sisters: A multimedia storytelling – a work in progress.
